Yoga Basics Workshop

With proper guidance and support, yoga can be appropriate for everyone, whatever their fitness level, flexibility, or age. 

 

In this accessible, introductory workshop, students will learn the basics of a modern yoga practice in a safe, supportive environment.


After attending the workshop, students should be properly prepared and feel confident to walk into a "beginner" or "all-levels" yoga class.

 

Students are introduced to the basic poses (asanas) in yoga and to the principles of proper alignment needed for a safe yoga practice including:

  • Intro to Yoga concepts 

  • Basic breathing techniques

  • Warm up poses, including sun salutations

  • Basic standing postures to cultivate strength and balance

  • Gentle back bends to cultivate mobility in the spine

  • Sitting postures for increased flexibility

  • Restorative ending poses for relaxation

 

We encourage you to bring a mat but if you don’t have one, don’t worry - limited mats are available to borrow. Please bring water and wear comfortable clothes.

 

  • Pricing:  $25 with pre-registration at least 24 hours before workshop date, or $30 the day of the workshop (20% discount if you are an Ornish alumni, Kukui Lifestyle Medicine Clinic patient, or with a referral from your physician).
